"Changing the World, One Teacher at a Time"
A career that makes a difference
According to the Florida Department of Education, our state is projected to hire 15,000 to 20,000 teachers per year over the next 3 to 5 years. In an attempt to address this major need, Daytona State College is offering The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI).
The Institute provides the necessary training for those already holding a four-year degree who may be interested in becoming highly effective teachers in Volusia and Flagler counties.
In addition to becoming prepared to pass the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE), those who successfully complete the EPI program will be eligible to receive their five-year Professional Educator's Certificate.
EPI is a state approved Alternative Certification Program that fulfills the education courses, professional education competencies and practical experience required to obtain a five-year Professional Educator's Certificate.
EPI has been designed to develop teachers through a learning community/cohort which offers multi-modal direct instruction, peer collaboration, portfolio development, service learning and exposure to a collaborative team of effective and experienced teachers.
Classes meet for two or three semesters in a variety of formats to accommodate individuals who may be currently employed, but seeking a career change.
